Here's a little story that Tinker's owners wanted to share:
Our cat, Tinker, aka Mr.
Tinkering and The King, has been with us since a rainy, cold New
Year’s Day, 2003. He was a playful, yet timid very small kitten
that had been abandoned and left at a relative’s home. We had
seen him while at a family New Year’s Eve Party the evening
before, and by 4:00 the next afternoon we had gone to pick him
up, bring him home, and see how he fit in with the rest of the
family. Tinker has been a perfect member of our family since
the first day we had him. We were a bit anxious of how to
handle him as we had never had a cat, and we had an older
Labrador Retriever, Sadie, who needed to adapt to this active
new pet. But, Tinker mesmerized all of us from the beginning
and he has been a wonderful pet. He delivers a certain calm to
the house and his antics bring many smiles and laughter, too.
Tinker likes to sit in the sun
and on the window sill with an open window. He also likes to
hide on the stairway and swipe at those as they pass by. He
likes to sleep at the foot of the bed and is always sure to wake
us up by walking all over the bed if we are not up at the usual
time. He is shy around people he doesn’t know and it takes
quite a bit of time for him to warm up to new people. If we
have company, he usually chooses to spend that time in the
basement. A very distinctive thing about Tinker is his very
loud, happy sounding purr. We always tease that he has his
motor running. He loves to curl up and sleep in our laps in the
evening while we are reading or watching TV. He also enjoys
teasing his “sister,” our Jack Russell Terrier. They love to
chase each other around the house and then end up taking naps,
side by side.
Early this last spring, very
quickly, Tinker began to lose weight and his entire demeanor
took a very quick turn for the worse. Dr. Logue warned us that
things did not look very favorable because Tinker had tested
positive for Feline Leukemia. The outward sign of the illness
was anemia and Tinker was in need of a complete blood
transfusion. Despite the fact this was to be a rather costly
procedure and there were no guarantees, we quickly decided that
Tinker deserved a chance to get well particularly because of all
the love he had brought into our home. We all have been very
fortunate that the transfusion was successful and with continued
medication and Dr. Logue’s careful guidance and medical
expertise, Tinker is still doing well today. We feel so
fortunate to have him still feeling well and a part of our
family. We also feel very blessed to have Dr. Logue and his
staff to care for both of our animals.
Today, Tinker leads a good life,
eats his food from a silver bowl in the dining room, and brings
lots of love and happiness to all of us. He is truly a unique
little guy…he is our “little king.”
